1.1  Scope
This Standard specifies the requirements for bidets intended for use with douche spray below the rim of the bowl, and to bidettes that can be fitted with over-the-rim taps. Bidets are not suitable for direct connection to the potable water supply as they have a submerged outlet spray unit positioned below the rim of the bidet. Bidettes with the prescribed minimum air gap measured after tapware has been fitted may be directly connected to the potable water supply. Tapware and the relevant componentry is not covered in this Standard. Fixture design is to provide outlet connection with waste pipes and prevent gas and odour from the sewerage system.
1.2  Normative references
The following documents are referred to in the text in such a way that some or all of their content constitutes requirements of this document. 1.3  Terms and definitions
For the purpose of this Standard, the definitions given in AS/NZS 3500.0 and the one below apply. 1.3.1 component that part or subassembly of parts, which contributes to the construction of a total assembly by choice or design which will offer variations of fitment for the application of the major element of the product, whether produced by that same manufacturer or not
1.4  Markings
The bidet or bidette shall be clearly embossed or marked, and be easily seen after installation, with the following: (a) The manufacturer’s name, mark or Trademark. (b) Serial number or date of manufacture code. (c) Model (identification).(d) The number of this Standard, i.e. AS 1172.3.
1.5  Product documentation
1.5.1  Installation instructions Full installation instructions shall be provided with the device including the following: (a) Requirements specified in AS/NZS 3500.1 and AS/NZS 3500.2. (b) Detailed step-by-step instructions. (c) Details of any special tools or training that may be required to install the product. (d) Commissioning procedures and adjustments required. (e) Troubleshooting guide. (f) Contact details for after-sales service. 1.5.2  Operating and maintenance instructions Operating and maintenance instructions shall be provided, which shall include — (a) any regular maintenance requirements; (b) spare parts information; (c) troubleshooting guide; and (d) contact details for after-sales service.
1.6  Product conformity
Product conformity to this Standard shall be evaluated in accordance with Appendix A.
2.1  General
This Section specifies requirements for the materials for bidets and bidettes.
2.2  Vitreous china
Vitreous china shall conform with the requirements of AS 1976.
2.3  Stainless steel
2.3.1  General Stainless steel shall be Grade 304xx or 316xx series, as specified in ASTM A240/A240M. 2.3.2  Thickness The thickness of stainless steel sheet for bidets or bidettes shall be not less than 1.2 mm. 2.3.3  Surface finish (internal and external) Stainless steel shall be polished to a satin finish or a non-reflective finish. 2.3.4  Construction Where welding is employed, the welding materials shall be compatible with the material to be welded. Welds shall be free of cracks and pits, and shall be ground and polished internally and externally. Any joins shall be made so that their strength is not less than that of the parent material and shall be free from crevices and folds.
